Somalia

OVERVIEW

Severe drought and conflct have affected Somalia, resulting in 6.6 million people facing high levels of acute food insecurity. And, with the global food prices sharply increasing since mid-2021, many families struggle to access basic necessities. The recent Gu season in Somalia started with promising rainfall, partially replenishing pasture and water in many parts of the country. However, the risk of riverine and flash floods remains high, leading to further displacement and damage. MAA’s drought relief efforts aim to mitigate the impact of extreme weather conditions, helping communities build resilience against future droughts.
