Yemen: the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

The UN estimates that 60% of deaths in Yemen between 2015 and 2022 were caused by man-made famine and lack of accessible health services. Did you know 21.6 million Yemenis are relying on our Ummah for support, but why?

1. An Inhumane Blockade that is Killing Yemenis

At the centre of this crisis is the 2015 naval blockade implemented by Saudi-Arabia, which blocks all imports into Yemen, allowing only a small percentage in. However, 90% of Yemen’s food supply is imported, so this blockade, amidst economic sanctions has caused starvation of civilian populations, pushing millions into a man-made famine. Saudi’s restrictions on fuel imports in particular are a key driver of the economic crisis, making basic needs unaffordable. In November 2021, Saudi allowed only 3% of the fuel Yemen needs each month. Yemenis with chronic health issues, such as cancer, have needlessly suffered and died waiting for potentially life-saving medical evacuations and medicine. 60% of all cancer patients die every year waiting for treatment that cannot be provided.

2. Yemen’s Support for Palestine

Life in Yemen was beginning to improve following international intervention. Unfortunately, Yemen’s decision to take action for Palestine has meant consequences for Yemeni civilians.

As a result, various organisations have now limited the supply of aid entering Yemen, or have all-together stopped providing aid. For years Yemen has faced unrelenting air strikes, briefly stopping in 2022 but were re-ignited and became even more deadly as of October 2023.

Our Response

Alhamdulillah our team has been working on the ground for a decade.  By giving today, this is what you can provide. However, our response isn’t just immediate aid. We aim to purchase locally sourced products and materials, to contribute to the local economy sustainably. Slowly, as your donations contribute to the livelihood of Yemeni Merchants and businesses, it supports the process of self-sufficiency, ensuring Yemen will one day, no longer rely on charity.
